The story behind the Guide.

The Girlfriends Guide was not just a reason to make money, it was actually spawned from an actual situation I found myself in.

It began in the fall of 2004, when my new girlfriend (yes, we're still together!) found out I was a massive football fan.

Not something completely strange, but since she had never been a fan herself, or knew of anybody that was an obsessed nutcase about the sport like me, it was a bit of a different situation for her.

Fast forward to the season, and she quickly realized that this was a serious obsession, and that I wasn't going to just "get over" it, or not spend 12 hours every Sunday watching football games, football replays, and arguing about players, teams and outcomes. If she wanted to stay in the loop on Sunday's, or enjoy our weekend time together, she'd be best served to figure out the rules of football, the players, teams and the game...or she would be on the outside looking in every time football rolled around.

So she took it upon herself to figure it out, and learn the rules herself. I mean, how hard could it be right?

And as I came into my home office one day, I found printouts on the desk, printouts from dozens of web sites claiming to have the "Rules of Football" layed out for people to learn.

But what she and I realized is that these rules were boring, long winded and dry. Not something I want to read, even as a Fan!

They were ESPECIALLY not something that would turn her into a fan, or give her a decent understanding of how the game is played, and why.

So that's when I decided to write this guide. A handbook to not only the complex rules of football, but the players and teams, trends and histories that go along with the sport.

So now you know, it time to get on it. Become a student of the sport, and a fan of the Game!!!
