Five NFL Stories You Never Hear About
The National Football League is full of stories and legend. We hear them all of the time. So what are five NFL stories you never hear about?
Lenny Moore of the Baltimore Colts is the only man in NFL history to score 40 touchdowns rushing and receiving. That’s an NFL story you never hear about. He was almost a 50-50 man. Moore scored 63 touchdowns rushing and 48 on pass receptions.
The Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns are the only teams that were a part of the AFL-NFL merger in 1966 that have not made it to the Super Bowl. This is an NFL story you never hear about.
Fans know about the 2007 New England Patriots “Spy gate” scouting scandal. The NFL story that you never hear about is that in 1958 the Baltimore Colts looked in from the roof of a building on the New York Giants practicing at Yankee Stadium before their playoff game against the Browns. Baltimore used this information to practice the next week and defeated the Giants in the championship game.
It is believed that the 1972 Miami Dolphins are the only undefeated, untied team in pro football history. This is not true. In 1948, the Cleveland Browns of the All-America Football Conference went 14-0. The story of the 1948 Browns is one that you never hear about. Ironically the coach of the ’72 Dolphins, Don Shula, played for the coach of the ’48 Browns, Paul Brown.
And finally, hall of fame Washington Redskin quarterback Sammy Baugh said many times that his team took a dive in their famous 73-0 1940 NFL title game loss to the Chicago Bears.
This makes the top of the five NFL stories you never hear about list, because no one wants to pursue Baugh’s claim.
Maybe they should.
